Community guidelines

Effective date: October 12, 2026

CapCats is a place for cat lovers to show off real cats and enjoy each other's. These few rules keep it that way. The first time you save a picture, the app asks you to agree to them.

CapCats is provided by Think Languages LLC. I'm Stefano, and I run CapCats for that company.

The short version

  1. Keep it kind. No hate, bullying or harassment.
  2. Keep it cats. Real cats, photographed in CapCats.
  3. Pictures that break these are removed, and anyone can report them.

Keep it cats

What belongs

  • Real cats that you photographed yourself with the CapCats camera. Yours, a friend's, the one on the wall down the street.
  • The same cat again, as often as you like. Every photo you save becomes its own picture.
  • Meme text and titles that are about the cat and the moment.

What doesn't

  • A photo of a screen, a print or a toy. CapCats is for cats that were really in front of your camera.
  • Pictures or text that are about a person instead of a cat.

Keep it kind

This goes for everything you write in CapCats: meme text, titles, cat names, collection titles, your alias and your first name.

What doesn't belong

  • Hate. Nothing that attacks or demeans people for who they are.
  • Harassment and bullying. Don't target, mock, threaten or shame anyone. Don't name or describe a person so that others can go after them.
  • Offensive words. No slurs and nothing sexual or violent.
  • Spam. No advertising, no selling, no repeated text meant to push something.

Keep it safe

These go for everything you do in CapCats, the pictures you take as well as the words you write.

  • No cruelty. Never scare, hurt or put a cat at risk for a picture.
  • Nothing illegal. Don't use CapCats to break the law.
  • Be yourself. Don't pretend to be another person or to speak for CapCats.
  • Respect privacy. Don't share anyone's private details, such as a home address or a phone number.

Be a fair neighbor

  • A picture you save to a collection stays its creator's picture, with their alias on it. Don't pass someone else's cat off as yours, in CapCats or outside it.
  • Hide is for you. A left swipe takes a picture out of your feed and nobody is told. It is not a vote against anyone.
  • Report things that break the rules, and only those. Reports are not for pictures you simply don't like.

If you see something that breaks the rules

  • Report it. Tap More on a picture, or open the menu on a profile or a collection, and choose Report. Pick the reason that fits: Not a real cat photo, Offensive or hateful, Harassment or bullying, Spam, or Something else. If you choose Something else, you can add details. The person is not told it was you.
  • Block them. Open the menu on their profile and tap Block. You won't see each other's pictures, cats, profiles or collections anywhere in CapCats, and their pictures leave your collections and Liked while the block is on. They are not told, and you can unblock them in Settings. A block works inside the app: a public picture or profile can still be opened in a browser by anyone who has its link.
  • Write to me. If you don't have the app, or a picture uses your own work without permission, write to [email protected] with the link to the picture or profile. For your own work, the Terms of Service say what to include.

What happens after a report

  • A picture you report leaves your feed straight away.
  • If three different accounts, each at least a day old, report the same picture, profile or collection, it is hidden from other people in CapCats automatically until I've looked. Its owner still sees it, marked Under review. For a profile, the profile photo and first name are hidden. For a cat, its pictures are hidden too, unless they also belong to another public cat.
  • I look at every report myself. I'm one person, so it can take a little while.
  • If it's fine, it comes back as it was.
  • If it breaks the rules, I remove it. Its owner sees a notice with the reason.
  • If an account keeps breaking the rules, or breaks them seriously, I can delete it, with everything in it.

If something of yours was removed

You'll see a notice on your profile. It says what was removed (one of your pictures, a collection or a cat by its name, or your profile photo or first name) and gives the reason:

  • It doesn't look like a photo of a real cat.
  • It's offensive or hateful.
  • It breaks the rules on harassment and bullying.
  • It looks like spam.
  • It breaks the community rules.

If you think I got it wrong, tell me. Tap Contact support in Help and feedback, or write to [email protected], and I'll take another look. Tell me what the notice said and why you think it should come back. If you write through Contact support, the support code it adds helps me find your account. I'll write back with my decision, and if I got it wrong, I'll put it back as it was. This doesn't take away any other right you have under the law where you live.

Who CapCats is for

CapCats is for people aged 13 and over, or the age at which you can agree to a service like this by yourself in your country, if that is higher. See the Terms of Service.

Changes to these guidelines

These guidelines are part of the Terms of Service. This is version 1. If I change them, I'll publish the new version on this page with its number and the date it applies from. When a change matters, I'll also announce it on capcats.app before it takes effect, as the Terms of Service describe.
